County conservation boards have been created in all of Iowa's 99 counties and are governed by Chapter 350 of the Code of Iowa.

The Mills County Conservation Board was established in January of 1957, as per Iowa state law. The organization’s stated purpose is: “To make available to the inhabitants of Mills County, public museums, parks, preserves, parkways, playgrounds, recreational centers, county forests, wildlife and other conservation areas, and to promote and preserve the health and general welfare of the people, encourage the orderly development and conservation of natural resources, and to cultivate good citizenship by providing adequate programs of public recreation.”

We offer Environmental Education programs for Mills County schools and youth groups - We provide public programs and programs for various businesses, groups and organizations within Mills County, which may be scheduled upon request. We also publish a quarterly newsletter - Conservation Matters - that details the highlights of our programs and lists upcoming events.

The Mills County Conservation Board encourages you to explore the over 1700 acres of unique conservation areas that are managed by the Mills County Conservation Board. You will find a variety of outdoor activities to enjoy, from camping, fishing and canoeing to photography, hiking, and biking. There is sure to be a nature area to fit everyone’s interest!
